For the past week, I've fallen into a rather Shakespearean kind of debate, to read or not to read? I think there comes a time in every writer's life when they must decide whether or not they want to work on their own project or pick up a book by a beloved author.
This week I decided that the best research is reading and I put my writing aside momentarily to fall into the final installment of the Divergent series. The cover says "one choice will define you," and I think my choice to read this week has defined me as a writer, someone who started writing because I loved books and stories and words. I haven't finished Allegiant just yet because I don't want this series to end. But what I have read is really great. Veronica Roth is such an inspiration because she published at a young age and has not only taken the literary world by storm but has given me characters and a world to believe in. It has made me want to be more courageous, to fight for the things I love. Here's what I believe in: sleeping in, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, reading, writing, best friends, Sex and the City, love, fairytales, magic, and my own stories. So in the midst of reading this week, instead of writing, I found myself believing even more strongly in my writing and my story. I am hoping I can share it with you soon. But until then…keep calm and read on!
xoxo
